DFW Airport Opens First Four Gates in Terminal A Expansion
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and American Airlines announced Oct. 21 that the first four gates of the airport’s Terminal A Pier Expansion are now operational. The project will add 140,000 square feet to Terminal A and provide 10 new gates, including five replacement gates and a net increase of five gates. American began operating from gates A10, A11, A13 and A15 last week, with the remaining six gates expected to open in time for the winter holiday travel season.
The expanded pier features wider passenger corridors, higher ceilings, improved natural lighting, upgraded restrooms and new concessions. The project also incorporated an innovative modular construction approach, with seven prefabricated sections transported more than 1.5 miles to the construction site in 2024. Approximately 65% of the modules’ mechanical, electrical and plumbing work was completed before they were moved into place. The expansion is part of DFW’s multiyear capital improvement program to modernize airport facilities and accommodate future growth.
